Last over defeat

Morning rain delayed the start to 3pm with the game reduced to 37overs.
Runi elected to bat however Westhoughton got off to a poor start as Glenn got bowled early on whilst Matt Trow and Charlie also fell to the bowling of Liam Hickson as both top edged catches to the in field.Hodgy was a spectator at the other end picking up the occasional boundary off the short ball whilst taking a couple of blows in the chest as the wicket misbehaved due to the damp patches from leaking covers.
Crawford bowled a tight line and accounted for Runi lbw as he looked to whip one through mid wicket.
At 42-4 Westhoughton were in the mire.
Hodgy dug in surviving a nick to 1st slip but with Jamie McAndrew struggling to score, the runs were hard to come by.They put on a 60 run partnership taking the score to over 100 before Hodgy was out for 60 with 6 overs left as Westhoughton looked for boundaries. Jamie batted to reach 30not out at the close of the innings as the score reached 145-8.

Jason was thrown the new ball and immediately got the Greeners batsmen jumping around as Franklyn played and missed. He was fortunate to survive a well disguised slow ball but the ball somehow hit his bat as Franks turned his back thinking it was a beamer. After reaching 17 his nicked off to Chris Trow who took a smart diving catch.Dangerman Simon Woolford went cheaply as he hit a drive to Oliver Dixon off Jimmy B whilst Tom Heaton was bowled. The game was pretty even as Greenmounts middle order accumulated runs steadily as Jack Harrison looked to attack along with Ian Senior. Both fell in quick succession to good catches in the deep by sub fielder Mike Houghton standing in for Abbass who had to depart before the game due to family reasons. At 120-7 things were on a knife edge not helped as the scoreboard had a power failure.Dave Senior and Gareth Williams with an eye on the run rate pinched singles as Charlie Honour replaced Jason with the light fading.A nick through slips went for four and a couple of other lucky breaks went Greeners way as Senior swung and missed ,the ball going over middle then Jimmy put down a tough chance at point. Greeners rode their luck as Williams just swung and hit a couple of 4s off the returning Jason before skying a catch to Matt Trow on the mid wicket boundary. With 5 needed off the last over Greeners scampered a 2 off the penultimate ball to seal a 2 wicket win.

A great game but sickener to loose as Greeners went 7 points clear of Westhoughton
