Tongy tames Kearsley

Kearsley won the toss and elected to bat on a scorching summers day.
Matt Fanning took the new ball and caused the opening batsmen problems before Darren Whittle flashed at one only for the catch to go down in the gulley as Dan Higham couldn't hold on.'Whizz'reached 24 before Dan made amends having the batsman caught behind by JP.Dan also took a second wicket as Wasim held a regulation catch at mid off whilst Matt had Greg Tonge lbw trying to hit out in frustration after giving the batsman a torrid time.Kearsley reached 45-3 at drinks but then put on a 70 partnership before the next wicket fell. Runi turned to spin with Gary Tonge and Wasim.Kearsley then lost 7 quick wickets as Tongy took 4 and Wasim a couple to wrap the innings uo at 140 all out.

In reply Dan Higham was promoted to open after his match winning knock midweek for the u18s but unfortunately went early bowled.Martin Hodgkiss in at 3 joined Runi in the middle and took the score to 40 until Runi was caught at short mid wicket for 18. A father and son partnership of 70 then took the game away from Kearsley as Kai Hodgkiss scored a neat 29 before hitting a full toss to mid off whilst Hodgy reached 50 with a four through square leg.JP joined in the action hitting a quick 20 not out whilst Hodgy finished on 64 not out to seal a 7wicket win.

Westhoughton stay 8 points clear at the top as they head into next weeks home game against Heaton.
