In the first game on Bank Holiday Monday, Westhoughton faced local Rivals Horwich in a low-scoring T/20 match. The visitors won the toss and chose to bat first but found themselves in deep trouble as they were 6-3 after 3 overs with Dan Naylor (1), Kieran Paisley (1) and Rob Brown (2) all back in the pavilion. Oliver Newby (25) scored quickly but found himself caught and also back in the tent with 13 overs still remaining. Sean Dunning played a sensible innings of 44 from 50 balls to steady the ship as Charlie Honour (18) added the only notable support to Sean. Westhoughton finished on 113 all out in the final over and knew they would have to bowl well to win this match.
Some excellent opening overs from Newby (0-5 from 2 overs) and Kieran Edwards (0-4 from 3 overs) had the hosts on the back foot. Charlie Honour then took two wickets in one over and Simon Ashcroft, fresh from bowling 23 overs straight through for the thirds on Sunday, also picked up two wickets to leave Horwich struggling and always behind the required rate. Rob Brown then joined in by taking two wickets and Dan Naylor picked up three wickets to wrap the game up as Horwich were all out for 81 and the visitors would be back in action straight away against Egerton.
