Bonus Point Victory

Westhoughton headed to Eagley in high spirits after beating local rivals Horwich the day before, but Eagleys slow and steady progress looked to have frustrated the visitors. After 20 overs the home side were 48-1 after Matt Fanning broke the opening partnership. Qaiser Abbas was having complete control from one end, with his figures reading an incredible 3-10 from 18 overs (with 12 maidens!) at one point in the innings. Eventually Qaiser finished with 5-37 from his 24 overs. The other wickets went to Kieran Edwards (2-63) and Atiq Uz-Zaman (2-26) respectively.
In reply the hosts struggled to make any real progress with the ball. Atiq fell for 9 in disappointing fashion, caught off a full toss and Rob Houghton (30) was caught behind with the score on 83. From this point on it was a masterclass in batting from Ian Pilkington (71*) and Qaiser Abbas (39*) who gave no real chances to the hosts and made sure Westhoughton reached their victory target with the loss of just two wickets to ensure a bonus point was earned.
