Maiden ton from Sean Dunning not enough for Westhoughton to get over the line

With second place looking out of reach, Westhoughton travelled to Astley Bridge looking to finish the season with two wins from the last two games. At the tea interval on Saturday, this certainly looked achievable.
Having won the toss, Rob chose to bat first but things got off to a bad start as Dan Naylor (9) and Qaiser Abbas (4) were both gone inside the first four overs. After a couple of decent partnerships, Pilky (16) and Rob (7) had also fallen. It was at this moment that Atiq (106) and Sean Dunning (103 not out) began a batting master-class, including a partnership of 130 for the 5th wicket, to set Westhoughton on their way to posting a huge total of 282-5. There was an unbeaten partnership of 81 between Sean and Charlie Honour (31*) as the visitors added those runs in only 8 overs.
Bridge came out on the front foot and despite two early breakthroughs from Matt Fanning, the hosts were always up/around the required run rate. Pro Syd de Silva (136) and Rick Northrop (77) turned the game in Bridges favour and despite some later pressure as Matt picked up 2 further wickets to finish with figures of 4-59 from 13 overs, and Atiq picking up 2 wickets too, the game was beyond Westhoughton as Bridge finished 283-6. Jason Scheepers also picked up four victims behind the stumps.
Next up for the lads was 2013 champions Little Lever...
