Westhoughton faced Farnworth in what was seen as a must-win game for both sides if they had any realistic hopes of catching current leaders FSC in the league title race.
Farnworth won the toss and asked the hosts to bat first. Westhoughton lost both Atiq and Dan Naylor early on as they were 39-2. Wickets would fall at regular inervals throughout the innings as there were four partnerships in the 30s and only Qaiser Abbas, who top scored with an excellent 86 not out, managed to score more than 17 runs. The hosts finished on 179-8 from their 50 overs wondering whether this would be enough against a Farnworth side who have chased down huge totals this season but also been dismissed for 30.
Farnworth got off to the worst start possible as the combination of Kieran Edwards and Jon Partington removed 2 batters in the first over despite both batters being unhappy with their respective decisions. The wickets continued to fall as Kieran picked up another wicket (3-33 from 11 overs) and Qaiser also took his first wicket. Farnworth were 20-4 and the game was almost over before the second innings had even got going. Two partnerships of 30 took the score to 80-6 but the last 4 wickets fell for four runs as Qaiser finished with 3-40 whilst Atiq managed to pick up only 4 wickets for 10 runs! JP claimed a total of 4 catches in the innings to move on to 614 victims.
