Frustrating Day at the Office

Westhoughton travelled to Heaton expecting a much tougher test than the one they faced on the opening day of the season, and that was exactly what they found waiting for them as the away side were asked to bat and lost Rob Houghton (7), Atiq Uz-Zaman (1) and Ian Pilkington (0) with only 8 runs on the board. Westhoughton were soon in even deeper trouble at 26-5 as Kieran Paisley (5) and Ste Parker (4) were also dismissed. Top scorer Qaiser Abbas (65) tried to keep his wicket and did so successfully as he was the last man to fall, but only Sean Dunning (26) gave him any real support in terms of adding runs to the total as Qaiser and Sean were the only players to reach double figures after sharing a partnership of exactly 50. Qaiser was the last man to fall as Westhoughton were dismissed for 134.
In response the home side also lost a couple of early wickets as Kieran Edwards blew away the top order to leave Heatn on the ropes at 26-3. This was about a good as it got for the lads though as Heaton's batters soon took the attack to the bowlers with Heaton Pro smashing 65 not out from 41 balls including five 6's to seal a six wicket victory. This was a disappointing result for the lads against a side who then went on to secure their place in the Hamer Cup Final 24 hours later.
