Westhoughton fall to league leaders

Following the frustration of last weeks rained off game against bottom of the table Tonge, the firsts travelled to Farnworth Social Circle knowing that a victory would take them within a point of top spot. Having won the toss, Westhoughton again lost early wickets in a display similar to the previous away game at Farnworth as Rob Houghton (1) fell early and soon the top and middle order were blown away to leave Westhoughton 47-6 with just Qaiser Abbas (37) and Atiq Uz-Zaman (20) making it to double figures. Dan Higham (15) also stuck around to try and offer some support to Qaiser playing some solid defensive shots as well as the odd attacking shot to keep the scoreboard ticking over. There was a 2 hour break for rain which almost saved the lads but unfortunately for them the game continued and Social kept up the pressure with the last 3 wickets falling for 5 runs as Westhoughton were 101 all out.
Due to the rain break, Social required 72 runs to win from 23 overs. This meant that Westhoughton had to take all 10 wickets to win the game as less than 25 overs were to be bowled. Qaiser Abbas made the perfect start for the visitors as got an early LBW decision. Unfortunately this was as good as it got for the lads and with a couple of tough chances not sticking, the frustration continued but not for long as the hosts chased down their target inside 12 overs.
