Farnworth Away 2014

Travelling to face a fancied Farnworth side, Westhoughton knew they eneded to get off to a good start especially after winning the toss and choosing to bat. Unfortunately for the visitors, skipper Rob Houghton went for 2 and then a disastrous spell followed where they lost three wickets for no runs to fall from 42-1 to 42-4! Another wicket fell with the score on 56, and thats when the fightback began. Atiq Uz-Zaman had survived all the wickets falling around him and made his way to 67, supported by a Westhoughton-best score from Sean Dunning who batted superbly to make 72 before falling at the end of the innings chancing his arm. There were vital late contributions from Charlie Honour (11) and Dan Higham (10) respectively as Westhoughton were dismissed for 191 in the final over.
In reply it was a similar scenario as the hosts found themselves 62-4 and then 84-5 before another fightback from the lower order took the score to 151-5. It was at this point that Matt Fanning (4-25) turned the game in Westhoughtons favour, having already dismissed the always dangerous Adil Nisar at the start of the innings. Farnworth eventually fell from 151-5 to 165 all out as the lads clinched a massively important victory.
