1st XI overcome local rivals in close encounter

With a recent record against Horwich making not pretty reading for Westhoughton fans, hopes were high that the first team could inflict defeat on their local rivals in this early season game.
The visitors made steady progress reaching 98-1 before Qaiser Abbas and Atiq-Uz-Zaman combined to help bring the hosts back into the game as Horwich slumped to 104-4. Wickets continued to fall at regular intervals throughout as Horwich finished 192-7 in their alloted 50 overs. Qaiser finished with figures of 5-69 from 25 overs, with Atiq and Kieran Edwards both finishing with 1-60 from 14 and 11 overs respectively.
In reply, the hosts lost captain Rob Houghton (16) and Ian Pilkington (1) early to leave Qaiser and Atiq, dubbed ''Westhoughton CC'' by one particular player from the visitors, at the crease. Whilst Atiq would fall for 37, Qaiser went on to score a brilliant unbeaten 95 from 92 balls, including five 6's in his innings. There were supporting roles for Ste Parker (13) and Dan Naylor (10*) as Westhoughton finished 193-5 with one over left to go.
The lads face Eagley away on Sunday looking for a brace of victories for the weekend.
