With less than a week until their first competitive game of the season (away at Prestwich on Good Friday) Westhoughton 1st XI began their pre season friendly schedule a week late as the previous weekends games were washed out without a ball being bowled against Darwen and Leyland respectively.
Astley and Tyldesley won the toss and took the unusual approach of fielding first in a pre-season friendly, even though rain was forecast for later in the afternoon! Westhoughton made a promising start through Rob Houghton (34) and Atiq-uz-Zaman as they reached 60-0 and 110-1 respectively as Ian Pilkington added 39. Wickets tumbled though and Westhoughton were soon 116-4. The returning Ste Parker added 38 to help push the total to 200-6 in the alloted 45 overs.
A+T also got off to a positive start as they reached 74-1 inside the first 14 overs with only Kieran Edwards picking up a wicket for the home side before the rain arrived and the game was abandoned.
