Egerton Crushed

Egerton travelled to Westhoughton knowing that a win for the hosts would all but end their title chances, one week after Westhoughton's own hopes were dashed by defeat at Little Lever.
Egerton lost one of their openers early thanks to a run out for Atiq Uz-Zaman who got a direct hit leaving the batter well short of his crease at the bowlers end. After this, frustration began to set in as Egerton were scoring at 6 an over reaching 70-1 before Kieran Edwards struck to pick up his first of two wickets (finishing 2-49 from 13 overs, having been 1-28 from his first three overs!). The big wicket of Egerton's pro, Athulhathmudali, went to Qaiser Abbas who had him caught behind for 49. Egerton rebuilt to reach 121-4, but a combination of Qaiser (3-42 from 24 overs) and Paul Hart (4-10 from 6.5 overs) destroyed the middle/lower order as Egerton crumbled to 133 all out.
Westhoughton lost just one wicket in reply, that of captain Rob Houghton for 6 with the score on 28. Atiq (70* from 91 balls) and Qaiser (52* from 67 balls) shared an unbeaten stand of 109 to ensure a seven point victory as Westhoughton look to guarentee a top five place and qualify for next years Lancashire Knock Out competition. Next up for the lads it is a double header weekend with Bradshaw away (Saturday 7th September) and Astley Bridge at home (Sunday 8th September
