Runs galore at St George's Oval as Westhoughton coast to victory

Westhoughton 1st team faced Farnworth Social Circle in what many expected to be a high scoring contest, and they were not disappointed.
Having lost the toss, Westhoughton made an immediate impact with the ball as Kieran Edwards struck with the score on 0. The next breakthrough didn't occur until the score was on 133 as Pro Qaiser Abbas picked up the first of his 4 wickets (4-91 from 25 overs) to help slow the scoring rate down. Westhoughton fought back well to restrict FSC to 225-7 from their 50 overs, much less than what the hosts were expecting to chase.
In response Westhoughton got off to a perfect start thanks to a partnership of 105 between Rob Houghton (35) and Atiq Uz-Zaman who top scored with 116*, his first league century but second for Westhoughton at St George's Oval. The next partnership was slightly better as Atiq was joined by Qaiser who scored 53 as the two combined to add 108 more runs. Unfortunately once Qaiser was dismissed, Glenn Bullock soon followed, meaning there would be no bonus point for the hosts, but Dan Naylor (12*) joined Atiq in seeing the hosts across the line.
This was a comprehensive victory for the lads, and they look to continue this form against Bamford Fieldhouse in the NKO on Sunday June 2nd, with a scheduled start time of 1pm.
