Westhoughton 1st team continued where they left off against Northern by recording another victory, this time in the league at home to Heaton.
Having lost the toss and being inserted to bat, Westhoughton lost Atiq-Uz-Zaman early for only 3 runs. Rob Houghton (22) and Ian Pilkington (13) moved the score to 44 before Rob was dismissed, and Pilky soon had to retire hurt. This left Pro Qaiser Abbas (57) to guide Westhoughton to 127-4, before Kieran Paisley (18) was dismissed. Qaiser fell with the score on 151, and Westhoughton were soon all out for 178 when Pilky, returning to the crease despite his injury, was adjudged to have been 'run out' as his runner, Dan Naylor, was run out at the bowlers end.
In response, the Westhoughton opening bowling partnership of Kieran Edwards and Paul Hart combined to leave Heaton 36-4 (both taking 2-31). A small fightback took place, but when Nathan Blair (1-32) struck with the score on 74, and the rest soon became a formality. Qaiser soon found himself bowling, and finished with figures of 5-19 from 8.3 overs, his second 5 wicket haul in as many games. Heaton finished 117 all out, leaving Westhoughton with a 7 point victory.
The next game for the 1st XI sees them take on table-topping Little Lever in a T/20 game this Bank Holiday Monday (6th May) with a scheduled start time of 1.30pm
