Westhoughton 1st XI suffered a couple of bad overs that ultimately cost them the game against Astley Bridge.
Having won the toss, Captain Dan Naylor invited the hosts to bat and this looked a good decision when they were reduced to 39-3 inside 8 overs, with Rob Brown taking all three wickets, finishing with 3-19 from 4 overs. Bridge recovered however and maintained a positive scoring rate with four overs of 10 or more runs being scored. With two overs left they were 120-5, and then the next over went for 21 runs, shifting the momentum. Kieran Edwards ending the innings by bowling a double wicket maiden, almost unheard of in 20/20 cricket to try and wrestle back the momentum.
However, Captain Dan Naylor was dismissed first ball in a tone that set the rest of the innings. Having raced to 33-1, Astley Bridge bowler McGuinness went one better than Kieran by bowling a triple wicket maiden, dismissing the dangerous Mike King and Rob Brown, before adding Matt Trow to his collection. Westhoughton were soon 34-5 as Jimmy Burrow was dismissed lbw. Kieran Edwards (20) and top scorer Mike Entwistle (48) rebuilt the innings but the run rate continued to grow and once Mike went, it was game over as Westhoughton lost another 3 wickets for 3 runs.
