Westhoughton vs Greenmount 1st XI

Westhoughton 1st XI lost again as top of the table Greenmount proved why they will be the team to beat this year. Westhoughton were put in to bat and Pro Stephen Murdoch (32) and Captain for the day Ian Pilkington (52) made good progress before Murdoch was dismissed lbw. After another solid partnership between Pilkington and Daniel Naylor (18), the middle order suffered a small collapse as Westhoughton lost four wickets for only 28 runs. Mike Entwistle (22*) and Wasim Nawab (17*) added 38 for the 9th wicket in a partnership that could have changed the momentum of the game.
In response, Greenmounts batters gave a couple of difficult chances early on, but soon found their stride. After a 55 opening partnership, Kieran Edwards took a fine caught and bowled chance to give Westhoughton hope. However, a 95 partnership followed that put Westhoughton out of the game. Wasim Nawab claimed another big-name victim as he dismissed the BCL leading run scorer from 2011, Andy Kerr, for 89 after a great catch in the deep by Michael Daley. Westhoughton will be looking to return to form with a league and cup double header weekend next week.
