Horwich v Westhoughton - 30th July 2005

Last Over Win Gives Howfeners A Much needed Lift

Westhoughton came back to form at near neighbours Horwich on Saturday in a nail-biting last over victory. The home side set an impressive 245-9, thanks largely to Grant Long (92) and David White (69) who's 142 run partnership inflicted more misery on the Westhoughton bowlers who, it has to be said, have come in for some stick in recent games.

However, the visitors were determined to get back to winning ways and set about their business with the bat in fine style. Rick Parker top scored with a superb 86, Ian Pilkington was next best with 56, followed by pro Antonio Mayers' 45. Mention must also go to Mubarek Patel who not only claimed 4 wickets, but also saw his team home with a very useful 22 not out at the end, as Westhoughton passed the required total for the loss of 6 wickets in the final over of the game.
