Westhoughton v Horwich 7th May 2005

Pilky shows the way as bowlers toil

Ian Pilkington top scored with a magnificent 96 but it still wasn't enough to secure a third win of the season. The home side reached 227-3 before declaring with one over remaining of the 37 on offer after a late start for rain. Pilky missed out on a century but was ably assited by pro Antonio Mayers who hit 47, Adam Coates hit an unbeaten 39 and skipper Stephen Parker chipped in with a fine 34. Mayers got the early break through but that was to be his only wicket for an expensive 70 runs from 16 overs. Part time bowler Alan Gaskell was the only other wicket taker as Westhoughton tried a variety of bowlers to try and dismiss the visitors who reached 163 for 3 before the end of play.
