There was a fantastic turn out for Westhoughton Cricket Club’s
Presentation Evening on Friday 28th November 2008. For what could be
the last one held at the Tyldesleys, there was a fabulous atmosphere as both
senior and junior cricketers as well as members were awarded trophies for their
achievements over the year. The club would like to thank special guests on the
night, Andrew Forshaw of Forshaw Demolition and Julian Mills from Malrod who
sponsored and presented the prizes on the night.
2nd team captain James Chadwick walked away with three
individual awards as well as being presented the 2nd team League
Championship trophy again, while up and coming all rounder Kieran Edwards also
carried off three individual awards for his achievements in under 15s and under
18s cricket.
Aside from the individual performance awards, there were a number of club
trophies awarded for special achievements over the last 12 months.
Fred Barton Award – This was presented by former
chairman Stephen Barton who awarded this to Martyn Hodgkiss for his work on the
development of the new ground. Martyn has been instrumental in making sure
everthing is going to plan.
Cricket Secretary Award – Cricket
Secreatry Tony Sharples
presented this award to 1st team captain
Steve Parker for his help in making sure everything was in place on the field
including organising deputy professionals etc.
Young Person of the Year Award – This was presented by new chair,
Maudine Morris who presented the trophy to Seb Miller for his work around the club,
as well as playing, scoring and updating the club’s website.
Presidents Prize – President Bill Crook awarded this
to the person who he thinks did a lot of work behind
the scenes over the past year, including always being available for help and
advice and awarded the trophy to Tony Sharples.

The club have
announced the signing of Indian, Nishit Shetty as pro for next season.
The 36 year old left handed batsman and slow left arm orthodox bowler has
previously played in the Bolton League for Greenmount in 2004 and
2005, hitting 1313 and 981 runs during his spell at the club.
Despite limited First-class bowling experience which brought just
1 wicket in 23 matches, the Indian picked up 57 victims at 15.9 in 2005.
In First-class matches, Shetty has hit 1931 runs at an average of
37.86, including five centuries with a highest score or 165 for his side
Mumbai.
The club will
start indoor nets in January 2009. The venue is yet to be arranged, please keep
