Howfeners Hammered in Hamer Cup Tuesday.....
Westhoughton crashed out of the Hamer Cup this evening as Greenmount once again broke the record for the highest team score in the competition, eclipsing the previous record they set in 2000 of 409 for 4 against Farnworth. This time they amassed 428 for the loss of just 2 wickets with Zaidi and Kerr scoring 157 and 178 respectively. In reply Westhoughton were 96 all out but were two batsmen short on the night. Deputy pro Nagamootoo and Paul Atherton were unavailable and although Mubarek Patel and Peter Wilcox came in, they were unable to bat as they didn't start the game on Sunday. scoreboard>>>>>>

Steve Lucas - finally retires
No Play At Heaton As Knotty Finally Retires Westhoughton were denied any play at Heaton on Saturday as unrelenting rain made sure no play was possible at the aptly named Lower Pools ground. One piece of news from Saturday though is the retirement of wicket keeper Steve Lucas who after several come backs finally decided to call it a day. Work and family commitments and a realisation that age was catching him up after taking quite a battering behind the stumps last week made the decision alot easier.
New Pro
Dale Richards
New Pro Shines In First Win Westhoughton's new professional Dale Richards was the star of the show against Little Lever. In his first match he hit an unbeaten 93 and almost single handedly won the game in what was a tense finish at the Tyldesleys. The visitors posted an impressive 267 for the home side to chase but when rain intervened a revised total of 184 was set from 31 overs and Westhoughton scraped home with 3 balls to spare. view scorecard>>>>
Antonio Mayers
Mayers Welcome Return But Rain Spoils Day Westhoughton were frustrated by the rain at Eagley on Sunday but the 1st team welcomed back Antonio Mayers who deputised as pro for the day. Antonio is the professional at Poynton this season but was more than happy to help out his old team mates for the day. view scorecard>>>>
Steve Parker - Top Scored
Ton Up Morris Shows The Way Westhoughton were given a lesson in how to bat through an innings at home to Bradshaw on Saturday. Several home batsmen got good starts but didn't go on to build an innings - unlike Bradshaw's David Morris who almost single handedly won the game for Bradshaw. view scorecard>>>>
Ryan Hinds
Mark Atherton
OPENING DAY DEFEAT AT THE BRIDGE Westhoughton 1st Xl were easily defeated on the opening day of the season. Rochdale pro, Ryan Hinds deputised after the club learned last week original choice Alcindo Holder was unlikely to make the trip and play any part of this season. To further disrupt opening day preparations, the 1st Xl were without five first team players who were in Barbados, and as four of them are top order batsmen it was no surprise having lost the toss Westhoughton were asked to bat first and were duely rolled out for just 71. Astley Bridge took just 15 overs to knock them off with just one wicket down. Mark Atherton deputised as captain. view scorecard>>>>r
Alcindo Holder
