At this time of year at every cricket club, work is going on around the ground to be ready for the new season ahead. At Westhoughton, that is no different even though you would think being a brand new ground nothing needs doing. New Chairman, Gary Dixon and his team will tell you the latter is far from the truth. Landscaping has been on-going throughout the winter and is now complete with 3,500 shrubs and 100 trees planted and all other ground work is now finished. Gary and Keith Houghton are currently constructing two new sight screens which will be 20’ wide x 16’ high and all the advertising boards have now been produced and just need positioning around the ground in the appropriate places. The club have also invested in new roll-on covers bought from Stuart Canvas in Warrington and are hoping to acquire a sponsor for the covers. If anyone is interested in having their company name and logo printed on the new covers for maximum exposure, please contact a club official for more information.
The club have also invested in a new 2 and a half ton roller which is due to arrive in April and they are hoping to get artificial two-lane practice nets at a cost of £25,000 which will be positioned at the side of the clubhouse.
PITCHCARE MAGAZINE
The club are pleased to have been approached by Pitchcare Magazine who are keen to showcase the new ground in a future edition. They will bring photographers and journalists down to the club to do a full feature on the new ground and facilities.
