1908 - Earliest WCC Team Photo
This is the earliest Westhoughton team photo we can find, unless you know otherwise. The player in the middle of the front row is holding a trophy. This is W.E.Tonge who laid the foundation stone to the Town Hall in 1908. 6th from the right is James Tyldesley whose son Dick is the boy sat on the grass front left. The man lying down at the front wearing pads is wicket keeper Jack Hardman. Do you know anybody else? - if so please email us at the above address and let us know. 1945 - Birth Of The Tyldesleys
In 1945 the ground was known as Bromilow Park, the name being acquired from the landlord of the Red Lion Hotel who in turn owned the land. After the ground had been bought from the second party, this being the council, it was decided to rename it as 'The Tyldesleys' after the great cricketing family. This photo shows a plaque being unveiled on 24th August 1945 to commemorate the event. Do you recognise anybody? - if so please email us at the above address and let us know. Arthur Sutton
One of Westhoughton's finest Pros. Arthur was club professional between 1976 and 1983.
During that time Arthur scored over 5,000 runs (5,210) and took almost 400 wickets (384). He also pro'd at Eagley and Little Lever and still holds the Bolton League record for having scored more overall runs than any other Bolton League professional. Arthur also captained Minor Counties side Cheshire and was renowned for his positive attitude to the game, playing hard but fair and was always keen to help youngsters play to the best of their ability.
