Westhoughton's new 3rd Xl originates from the old Metal Box cricket club who were renamed CMB when the factory was sold, then relocated to Chew Moor when the sports fields were developed for housing.
Unfortunately the cricket team were poor relations to the expanding football section and given spatial restrictions at their ground felt that the relationship had detiorated beyond reconciliation.
Martin Hodgkiss approached CMB as WCC felt that it would be a good springboard to introduce promising juniors to senior cricket and also to allow under 18 players who may not get a game in 2XI the opportunity to stay involved as too many players are lost after reaching 18. The format of the NMCL is 45 overs per side with League fixtures and a Cup competition.
